Pure Heaven

Saturday night I got to experience a real treat for dinner: Pure Food and Wine. Also treatworthy (not to mention blogworthy) was the company, my real-life friends, Gena and Katherine.

The menu alone was a slice of 'Pure' heaven, not to mention our table in the garden. The weather was perfect in NYC Saturday night!

We decided to share three appetizers to start. As soon as they arrived, the cameras materialized and in true blogger form, we snapped away for a few minutes before enjoying our food. :)

Asparagus Sushi Rolls with mirin soaked forest mushrooms avocado, red pepper, scallion:

A salad of mache with strawberries, raspberries, fennel and cashew cheese:

King Oyster Mushroom Scallops with hijiki seaweed caviar chive creme fraiche, wilted mustard greens with black garlic, tomato broth:

All three of our starters were amazing, presentation included, obviously. Even if I hated it, I would have had to do this blog post for food porn purposes only!

It was my entree that REALLY blew me away, though:

At Gena's suggestion, both Katherine and I chose the lasagna for our main course. It is a well-known staple of the Pure menu, and for good reason!

Zucchini And Local Hothouse Tomato Lasagna basil pistachio pesto sun dried tomato sauce, pinoli ricotta

Good gracious, those layers of delicious nuts and sauces between the zucchini & tomato slices were incredible. For those of you unfamiliar with (and/or perhaps wary of) raw dining, there's no way you'd waste any time thinking about whether or not this dish was raw. Let's not get caught up in semantics. This food is just GOOD. <-- Period.

Enter the dessert:

Mint Sundae chocolate fresh mint and mint chip ice cream with mint chocolate cookies and vanilla cream

There is nothing about this dessert that tastes "different," unless you count the lack of artificial flavors. It's fresh, it's ice cream, it's amazing.

It's also way past my bedtime so I'm keeping it brief, but thank you to Gena and Katherine for accompanying me in my first Pure experience! Not to be forgotten any time soon, that's for sure.

Don't forget the Holey Donuts giveaway! It ends at midnight (EST) Wednesday night and I will post the winner Thursday.

What a gorgeous meal! I know if I tried to make that lasagna, it would look like zuchinni with peanut butter on it.
