I have just had the best Friday of life! This was assisted by the fact that I was off the hook from work at 2pm (huzzah!), so I took the opportunity to meet up with Gena for juice (Jus, to be precise) and a chat in Union Square Park. All I can say is I am beginning to suspect she and I were separated at birth because we might actually share a brain. We must have sat there yammering for nearly two hours! Crikey! Lucky for me, she works just footsteps away from my office, so hopefully it will be a repeat event. :D
Speaking of events, tonight I got to dine at Candle 79 with no less than 15 other NY-area bloggers (!), including VeggieGirl, who has been in NYC for a visit this week. Words do not describe how excited I was to have an excuse to try this restaurant, since it has been on my to-do list fo-eva (and yes, I have a separate to-do list for restaurants...it's long).
I'll let the photos do most of the talking (not that they're very good). We had what I guess was a complimentary appetizer of French lentil pate (?) on a tortilla chip (??) with yellow peppers on top (for sure).
My entree was the Live Zucchini Enchiladas, which were raw and delicious.
A girl could get used to this, though my wallet says I won't. ;) Worth every penny for a special treat, though!
Here's an ugly flash shot just so you can appreciate every detail of this dish's glory:
And now I shall embarrass myself by a) getting at least one attendee's name/blog URL wrong and b) not having taken pictures of everyone at the table.
The view directly across the table: Dierdre, Caroline and Liz. (I'm missing the two seated to the right of them: Katie and Ari)
As you can probably tell, there were far too many ladies there for me to talk to in one mealtime! Nonetheless, it's always a great opportunity when I can meet the faces behind the pages because I feel much more connected to their blogs afterward, like I have a new understanding of the personalities behind the writing and photos. It's like blogs in 3D, no joke!
Dessert is a necessity, as always, so once the group broke up, Katherine and I knew that free Pinkberry (from 5pm-9pm today!) was destiny, so we walked a few blocks over to tap that.
Turns out Sarah and Olga had the same idea (and managed to teleport to Pinkberry somehow) but had to skedaddle to a concert (hope you guys made it!). Katherine and I hung out to jibba-jabba for another hour or so.
Need to take lessons on how to be as awesome as her. (Notice the massive line forming in the background!)
And for the record, Pinkberry's new coconut flavored yogurt is just lovely, especially when it has blackberries and chocolate shavings on top (and costs no money).
Good times had by all, as they say. A big thank you to Heather for organizing tonight's dinner! Time to dream of fancy vegan food dancing in my head...
