Quick cell phone post before I fall into bed. Went on a date with the roomie tonight. We dined pre-theater at Kashkaval, a market and restaurant in Hell's Kitchen. They serve Mediterranean food - mostly tapas, wine, cheese and fondue. The front part of the place is a market where you can buy such things in large quantities. We sat in the cozy back area, though, and we each ordered a sampler of 5 tapas.
Of course, you can tell none of this from the pictures above. The lighting in this place was fighting with me every which way! That's what I get for using my phone to take pictures I guess. Anyway, what you can't see on my plate is baked beets, roasted cauliflower, eggplant caponata, lentil tapenade and roasted brussels sprouts. We were also served a basket of warm pita bread. A delicious and healthful dinner to keep our bellies still during a play that was rather still itself.
I did not love Exit the King. Despite the massive star power (massively talented star power, even) I really just found the play itself weird. I'm not at all sorry I saw it. It'll close this week, after all. Plus it's not every day you get to see Geoffrey Rush, Susan Sarandon, Lauren Ambrose and Andrea Martin on one stage. Even they could not save this script from its own abstractness, though. Geoffrey Rush deserved the Tony he won for this play, and it had some really funny moments. It's just that I can't help but remember the moments that dragged as well. C'est la vie!
Sorry for a wonk post this evening, but I'll make it up to you: check back here tomorrow morning for a chuckle and a super sweet giveaway!
