Sprechen Sie Linkity?

In lieu of a real food-related post, it's time for a little Friday link love, because what you should really be doing is entering my VITATOPS GIVEAWAY.

First and foremost, I want to direct your attention to Caitlin, who has created a dedicated page to "Ending the Fat Talk" on her blog, Healthy Tipping Point. This really struck a chord with me, and clearly I'm not the only one, because the response has been huge, which was obvious when she posted the first installment on her blog. Here's a little excerpt so you can preview what we're talking about here:

So, what do we really mean when we say, "I'm so fat"?  We  actually mean that we are FULL WITH AN EMOTION.   Oftentimes, it's shame.  Or sadness.  Or fear.   Why do we express our inner turmoil by hating our bodies?  Because that's what Fat Talk and society tells us to do.  Don't admit you're scared, just feel fat!  Don't admit you're lonely or depressed, you're just fat!   We can deal with ugliness, we cannot deal with weakness.

The next time you feel the urge to say, "I'm so fat," think about what you REALLY mean.  By berating your body, you aren't doing any favors.  But by honoring your emotions, you're living a happier, more honest life.

I 100% credit my healthy lifestyle to having my head screwed on straight. Sure, I have self- and/or body-hate from time to time, but I would bet that you do too. We have to have the bad moments to recognize the good. The point is that there was a time when my eating right and working out wasn't happening for the right reasons, and once I identified those reasons, both right and wrong, I was able to work on a positive outlook. I'm the creator of my own happiness, not my dress size.

That was an unusually concise "soap box," knowing my tendency to be long winded when writing, but all this self-hate and negative body image is something I have strong feelings about, and what with it being Friday before a holiday weekend and all, I am just not feeling like this is the time when I want to dive into it. But let me know in the comments (or via email, if you want to keep it confidential) if this is a topic you have thoughts on and whether or not you'd like to see more discussion of it here. I'm curious to know more about who's out there breathin' on my blog. :)

So let's do a lil something good for our collective giveaway karma, shall we? The following links contain giveaways ALMOST as good as my Vitatops contest:

That'll do for now. Bon weekend!
