A High Class Problem

If I could complain to my mom about having major blogging backup right now, she would probably say, "M'dear, that's what we call a 'high-class' problem." Translation: there are much worse things that could be on your to-do list, so suck it up and git 'er done. So here is Saturday, with no more of a graceful introduction than that.

I was very excited about this breakfast I made at the time, but now I'm slightly fuzzy as to how I went about doing it, so I'll just have to do my best at a summary. I have been much intrigued by Heather's use of avocado for chocolate "frosting," and seeing as I had a spare quarter avocado, I decided to top my oat bran with what I'll call chocomole, as I was too lazy to bust out anykind of machinery in order to really whip it into a frosting/mousse/actual confection.

Ingredients, cooked on the stove top over low heat:
  • 1/4 cup oat bran
  • 1/4 cup kamut puffs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup liquid egg whites
  • 2 tbsp chocolate PB2

Topping, mushed together with a fork:

  • 1/4 avocado
  • heaping 1/4 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp agave nectar

The proverbial cherry on top is a crushed peanut butter Newman-O cookie. I'm in love!

I also made a green smoothie to go with out of salad greens, vanilla Almond Breeze, 1 tsp roasted flax seeds and ice. This has pretty much been my go-to formula for green smoothies so far, being a beginner, but I'll get fancy soon enough, I promise. :)

If the contents of the two photos above don't give you a case of the full, sloshy belly, I dunno what does.

[Insert random chores, errands and lunch, the picture of which I'm saving for a separate post because I feel a tutorial espanol coming on. Que bueno!]

Soon enough, it was time for the NYC blogger meet-up! We met at Planet Thailand 212, all 12 (!) of us, and it was really fun getting to know some of these ladies in real life! A big thanks to Melissa of Fitness NYC for putting the event together. The venue was perfect, and so was the company (awwww...).

Speaking of sloshy, I started with a Thai Bellini, which is prosecco and fresh mango puree. Sawasdee gorgeous!

There was also plenty of edamame...

This is what happens when bloggers are served their meals (thank you for being Exhibit A, Becca):

They might pose for a picture, if you're really nice. :) All in the name of dinner!

I ordered from the menu of specials--this is the Garden Roll, which had a ton of stuff in it, none of which I remember. I think it had seaweed, lettuce, avocado, egg, whatever that green wrapper is made of...whatevs, it was delicious.

Here we all are in a fairly wonk shot of the whole table (damn you, mood lighting!):

A fine set of ladies, if I do say so myself.

One thing I did not expect from this event was swag, but we were spoiled rotten! Thank you to Tanya for the adorable (insulated!) lunch bag, to Missy for the Kashi bar (my favorite!) and again to Melissa for all manner of things, like free gyrotonics class (seriously?!).

I am so loving these samples from raw eatery One Lucky Duck, although it appears from the picture below that I am missing one of my samples. Whatever could have happened to my raw granola bite between dinner and home???

It was a great get-together and I hope there will be more where that came from. I am too tired to come up with any more pithy commentary, but suffice it to say, good times had by all.

Again, don't forget that my $20 gift certificate to Mix My Granola is still up for grabs! Enter here for your chance to score. You have until I wake up Saturday morning to enter (I don't feel like dealing with time zones/time stamps/time warps).

Want to double your chances? Missy has one to give away too! Yessss...

Last but not least, wish Jenn a happy first blogiversary and you'll have a chance to win a sampler of her favorite stuff, and I think we could all go for a lil bit o'that.

Alright, I'mma sign off until tomorrow zzzzzzzzzzz...

I love the pic of me and Missy where we are posing for a camera obviously not in your direction! Haha. And how AMAZING was that granola sample! I loved it! My boyfriend ate the cheesy cracker one and like it, and I attacked the macaroons as soon as I got home that night!

We should try to go do one of these classes together!

Diana, you bowl topped with chocomole looks pretty darn tasty to me. Love the addition of the Newman's O.

Glad you enjoyed the NYC blogger get-together. Everyone looked so cute. :) How fun that there are so many of you living in one city!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

My girl knows what to expect... the email regarding a high-classed problem was winging its way before I logged in. Glad to know you've been listening. Enjoyed this entry.

Hi Diana, sorry we didn't get to chat at the blogger dinner since we were so far away from each other. But I am a daily reader (that is right, just a reader I don't have a blog of my own) of your blog. Hopefully next blogger meet up we can formally "meet".

Elsa, I'm sorry too! It was such a great event to bring us all together at once, but we'll have to do some stuff on a smaller scale from now on. Hope we get to hang out at some point! Thanks for reading. :)

A tour of just pizza? I'm intrigued :)

Hehe, I have a crazy backlog of posts from weeks ago (when I was on vacation). I was so stressed out about it before but then I decided to skip to the present and I'll sprinkle the posts in at some point. There was too much good stuff there not to blog about!
Ok, Heather's avocado oats totally intrigued me but I was too lazy to bust out the blender. I think I'll go with your smooshing method :)
Fun blogger meetup. I love those! (note to self, organize another one soon).
