Seitanic Verses

What a perfect evening I had last night! A much-needed happy cap on the day. I still can't believe the Valentine's present from the boyfriend.

But first, the food. Priorities, people.

The boyfriend wasn't able to join me due to work and transportation issues, so I took my fine ass out to dinner at Angelica Kitchen in the East Village. How fabulously delightful! And dining alone is underrated. I found myself really concentrating on what my food tasted like and enjoying my meal as my company, as opposed to another person. I still prefer going out to eat with a companion, of course, but I'm just saying it's fun to dine solo every so often. I had a book with me, but I barely even looked at it for more than a minute or two. I also had a chance to tinker with the settings on my camera, so I actually have some halfway blog-worthy pictures of the eats, now that I've figured out how to adjust the exposure time.

So everything at Angelica is totally vegan, mostly organic and seasonal. I opted for a menu staple for my first experience, and what a staple it was. Behold, Ole Man Seitan.

homemade seitan and roasted vegetable mix folded into a warm whole wheat tortilla; dressed with spicy mole, lime-jalapeno tofu sour cream and a slice of sassy pimento

Seitan has to be at the top of my list of favorite proteins. And combined with mole mole mole...? HOT DAMN. No words. No words except to say that the entire contents of the picture above went into my tummy, minus the plate, knife and book.

Don't let that fool you into thinking I didn't have room for dessert though - I have a separate stomach for that. To help everything digest comfortably, I had a mug of Angelica's kukicha (I can't type that without laughing).

KUKICHA! How can you not chuckle at that name?! As for its effect, I found myself no kuki-er than usual, so no worries.

For dessert, I chose the Caramel Peanut Butter Blondie. It was topped with sort of a tofu whipped cream and peanut brittle.

This too was all meticulously eaten in its entirety. (And Leon's getting laaaaaarger...) So worth it! I will be back.

I hopped on the train uptown to meet the boyfriend, but landed in the Times Square area way too early, so I wandered around here to keep warm:

All looky, no touchy. Did you see what I had for dinner?!

And finally, the present itself. 'Twas this very show:

Yeah! Will Ferrell live!! Boners!!!

I feel really lucky to have gotten to see this, so thank you boyfriend for treating me. I needed the laughs, and they were provided in abundance. In fact, my face ached by the end of the show!

So there you have my Tuesday evening, as promised. Time to eat again!

I've been to M&M World in Vegas and I couldn't pass up the bulk bins of M&M's. There is something about eating them out of bulk that makes me feel less guilty, or like I am not eating as many as out of a package.

You saw Will Ferrell LIVE? I am eternally jealous. Seriously. I love that man's humor.

And it is SO COOL that you took yourself out to dinner. Sometimes it's nice to enjoy your own company! :)

And I've never tried Seitan.. maybe I should?!
