Hemp Protein: Take Two

After a couple of you commented that your experiences with hemp protein were rather, ahem, dirty, so to speak, I got nervous that I liked it in my oatmeal so much because the oatmeal was a pre-sweetened mix (a honey cinnamon Kashi Go Lean warm cereal packet). Therefore, I mixed it into a typical yogurt-cereal-fruit deskfast this morning to give it a true taste test against flavors I know and recognize. In the bowl:

  • 3/4 cup Kashi Heart to Heart cereal
  • 1 tbsp sliced almonds
  • 1 tsp flax seeds
  • 70g (thawed) frozen organic mixed berries
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt

Verdict? I still like it. Still fugly, but still tasty. It sweetened up a fairly simple breakfast bowl with an interesting taste, but let me here state that I don't mind earthy-tasting stuff. In fact, I can't think of anyone else who truly prefers plain original Kashi Go Lean to any other Kashi cereal. Such is my wacky palate. I do recognize the somewhat bitter taste and "dirty" texture that the tablespoon of hemp added to the mix, but it does not offend me. To each their own!

Anyway, I'm obviously back in NYC, back to the daily grind. I'll come back atcha sometime soon with a Boston recap. When I will actually get to it is still TBD, as my Valentine's present from the boyfriend will be taking effect tomorrow evening and I doubt I will have a chance to post, but stay tuned for cute toddler photos - I may get to it in the meantime. :) SO excited!

I wish I liked my hemp powder in oats or yogurt! I did make some homemade protein bars with it, and they turned out pretty good. So, I'll probably just make more of those and maybe try it in some baked goods. We'll see.
